I want to start off by saying, “knowing” Jesus and knowing “about” Jesus are two different things.
Look at how Jesus responds in Matthew 7:21-23. 21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.”
There were people who thought they “knew” Jesus just because they knew of him, they knew the Law and listened to His teachings. They followed Him, witnessed His miracles and even liked him. But, Jesus said, “I never knew you.” That’s a scary thought. It’s not about if we know Him necessarily, but if He knows us. It’s all about having a personal, intimate relationship with Him.
Fast-forward to today, where we have thousands of people who know about Jesus, know some facts about him, know bible verses about him and some may even go to church to learn more about Him.
But, these same people have never applied what they know about him to their lives. They may have all the knowledge about him, but if its never been applied to there lives and the Word of God received in their hearts, then they lack wisdom and don’t truly know him.
Jesus talks about just this. Matthew 15:8-9. 8 This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me 9 in vain do they worship me,
teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.
People can make the mistake of putting religion in the place of a real relationship with Jesus. Knowing Jesus means we have repented of our sins and have accepted what he did for us on the cross. We ask and allow him to be the Lord of our lives (John 1:12 Acts 2:21). We crucify our old selves with him on the cross. (Colossians 3:3 Romans 6:2 Galatians 6:14) We accept His forgiveness for our sins and seek an intimate relationship with Him through His Holy Spirit (John 17:3 Philippians 3:10.1 John 2:27).
After repenting of our sins and giving our life to the Lord, Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38 John 14:26 16:13) The Holy Spirit comes to live inside us, changing us from the inside out forever (1 Corinthians 6:19.1 John 3:9). Now the things we know about Christ come alive in us.
Jesus is one person of the three that operate in the Godhead (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). To know Him is to enter into a real relationship with Him. The greatest commandment we have been given is to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength" (Matthew 22:37 Mark 12:30 Luke 10:27). It will be hard to love someone intimately that you don't know. Die to self and be born again, abide in Christ and he will abide in you (John 15:4)
This is what making Him Lord of your life looks like (Matthew 6:33 Romans 10:9-10 Psalm 16:8
If you have not already accepted Jesus as your lLord and savior then say this prayer out loud and believe in your heart and you will be saved in Jesus name.
"Father God, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry for all the wrong that i have done, and now I REPENT turning away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me for my lawlessness and sinful ways, and help me through your Holy Spirit to avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins, and was resurrected from the dead on the third day, and is alive today sitting at the right hand of the Father , and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
If you have said this and believed in your heart you are now a child of God.
Rejoice in the lord this was the best decision of your life. But this is just the first step find you a local church that preaches the true, biblical and living word of God.
